Chapter VIII. The Hero's Journey: Trials and Sagas
How an unknown adventurer passes the test of the world and inherits the spirit of legends
Chapter Seven left the world on the brink: the seals are weakening, Shilen and Antharas are tossing in their shackles, and kings and priests are squabbling over the power of the Seven Seals. Who can stand against such darkness? Not kings. They are forged differently—and this chapter is about how a nameless newcomer becomes a hero capable of taking on the entire world.
Where does the journey begin?
Every hero begins as a nobody. He arrives in town as a rookie, chooses a craft—sword, bow, prayer, or magic—and receives his first, humble calling. This is not yet a hero; it is a blank. To become something greater, he must pass through fire twice: first, the test of the living world, then the judgment of dead legends.
First Fire: Trials
The first level of mastery is not bought or earned over the years - it must be earned deserve by deedsOrders, guilds and temples arrange a series for the seeker Tests (Trials) and Testimonies (Testimonies), and each has its own face: the Test of the Challenger, Duty, Seeker, Book-Scholar, Pilgrim, Guild Member; the Test of Trust, Life, Destiny, Glory, Prosperity. Behind these names are tests of will, intelligence, faith, and loyalty.
But these tests also have a common, much higher purpose than “pumping up a fighter.” Their task is to raise someone who stitches together a fractured world. The cardinal's speech is indicative, which gives one of the Testimonies:
"Your glory precedes you, my friend! I know well of your efforts to restore trust between the elves and the dark elves. Now go to the northern ice—to the leaders of the orcs and dwarves!"
Cardinal Seresin
This is what the future hero is doing at the second stage: he is reconciling five nations from the first chapter — elves with dark elves, orcs with dwarves—heals the ancient feuds that the gods themselves bequeathed to the world. The world, as it were, tests the newcomer: are you worthy of greater power? Will you turn it to evil? Only after passing this test of service does the seeker receive a second profession—and become no longer a blank, but a true warrior, mage, or cleric.
Second Fire: Saga
But the true hero is the one who has reached the third, highest level. And it is only attained at the end of a long journey, not before level seventy-six, through a test the game calls Saga. The Saga isn't a "leveling quest." It's a personal, almost philosophical, quest, and it begins not with a command, but with a question that strikes at the very heart of the craft. Here's how the paladin is greeted by his mentor:
"You've probably already experienced what it's like to be a paladin. What do you do when life, honor, truth, justice, and faith are in conflict? How do you reconcile them? Finding justice isn't easy."
Grand Master Cedric
The Master doesn't give an answer—he gives a yardstick. He remembers. legendary predecessor your class, so that you can try on his fate. The duelist is told about Kaien, Duelist of Oren, who was striving for high ideals:
"A duelist is covered in scars—and yet he still fights on. The duelist's path is like a mountain pass made of countless sharp blades."
Grand Master Cedric on Kaien
So each Saga has its own face and its own ideal: the Phoenix Knight, the Duelist, the Titan, the Cardinal, the Archmage - each hero follows in the footsteps of the one who first paved this path.
The Descent of the Dead Empire to the Devil
And here's what's amazing: to grow into a legend, a hero must descend into the very heart fallen empire from the last chapter. For the key to the Saga is guarded not by beasts, but by an ancient evil. The Mentor explains it bluntly:
"The devil Halisha has made the Imperial Tomb his home since the time of Elmoreden—the place where feudal lords paid tribute to the dead emperors. The Stone of Commune is in the possession of one of his minions, Archon Halisha, somewhere in the Four Tombs."
Master Felix
The same Frintezza who executed Saint Solina and went with the pact of evil spirits to the Imperial Tomb, and the same tomb now the lair of the devil Halisha. To become a hero of the present, the seeker must walk through the ruins of the past and tear Stone of Commune from the clutches of the Archon - or in the depths Four Sepulcherseither The walls of Argos, in the Sanctuary of the Faithful, having slain countless hordes. The hero's path literally leads through the empire's grave.
Conversation with the Spirit of Legend
And then comes the reason for which it all began. The hero carries the obtained Stone of Communication to Tablets of Vision (Tablet of Vision), and the stone comes to life:
“The Stone of Communication begins to glow as one approaches the Tablet of Vision… A vision appears: a man looking at the Stone of Communication with a smile.”
from the Saga
Through this stone the hero speaks to the spirit of the legendary founder of his class — that very Kaien, that very first paladin or archmage. It's as if he's undergoing a test before history itself: prove yourself worthy of bearing their title, that you'll carry their ideal forward. And only after passing this judgment of the dead does the seeker return. reborn — Duelist, Phoenix Knight, Cardinal, Archmage. Not just stronger—different.
Why all this
Put both steps together, and the meaning will be revealed. First, the world tests the hero. service to the living: Will he be able to reconcile the races, heal discord, be a support rather than a threat? Then the dead test him. spirit: is he worthy of the legacy of those who walked this path before him, and will he have the courage to descend to the devil of the fallen empire and come back out.
Twice through fire—that's the hero of Aden. And he's not forged by chance or for beauty. A world where seals are weakening, where Antharas stirs beneath the earth, and Shilen strains from behind the Death Seal, desperately needs those capable of standing against the most ancient evil—face to face with dragons, angels, demons, and the cursed emperors of yore. The next chapter will tell of these, the world's greatest threats, and of those who dare challenge them.
