Talon Spider
Claw-eating spiders get their name from the long, curved, hook-like legs they use to cling to rocks and tree trunks in the shadowy thickets near human lands. They are more cautious than their relatives: they don't pounce on travelers without reason, waiting in the shadows and attacking only when prey gets too close to their webs. But even these creatures, for all their restraint, fear fire, whose flames consume their chitin far faster than any blow.
A slain claw-eater leaves behind scraps of animal hide, bone fragments from previous victims, and stalks of medicinal herbs entangled in webs. Those who choose the path of human knighthood are commanded to slay these spiders as well, to prove that the future defender will not flinch before the predator lurking in the darkness.
