Catacomb Scavenger Bat

The Crypt Scavenger Bat nests beneath the low vaults of the Catacombs and Necropolises, where it feeds on carrion and is not above eating the living flesh of unwary travelers. These creatures swoop down from the ceiling in swarms, attacking with fury at the mere scent of blood in the darkness of the dungeon. Accustomed to the musty stillness of the crypts, they shiver and become lost in the wind, and the air is fatal to them.

These leathery creatures are harvested for the skins and bones of animals they drag to their roosts, and sometimes the recipe for bone arrows can be found among the debris—an unexpected windfall for a craftsman. Many hunters drive them from tombs not for prey, but to cleanse the sacred crypts of winged evil.
